For a theoretical description of the static hysteresis loop [1] shape of the helix-free smectic C* ferroelectric liquid crystal [2] (FLC) cell we introduce a surface potential Φs, comprising two substantially independent constituent parts. The first part corresponds to deviation of the FLC director n from the easy alignment axis, while the second part is required to account the smectic layer polar axis m deviations from the normal to the bounding surface. The proposed form of Φs, combined with taking into account the spatial fluctuations of the director, allows to calculate the static hysteresis loop shape of the FLC cell polarization . The calculated loop is in agreement with the experiment (Fig. 1), which was done with the FLC cell using experimental technique described in [3]. It confirms validity of the introduced Φs potential.
