Small-size two-stroke internal combustion engines are mostly employed as single-mode power sources. This characteristic makes it possible to improve fuel efficiency by modifying of their design under the required operation mode. A certain modification involves optimizing the exhaust system layout. This paper presents the experimental results of studying the wave processes in the exhaust pipe of a single cylinder two-stroke engine. The exhaust gas temperature in the investigated mode is estimated in order to determine the working conditions of the selected pressure sensors. The paper analyzes the influence of the exhaust pipe length on the pressure wave amplitude in front of the engine exhaust port and pressure distribution along the pipe’s entire length. The experimental data is correlated with the results of simulating the engine processes. Conclusions are made regarding the wave dynamics dependence on the exhaust channel length.
