Detection of short pulses of THz radiation with fast and sensitive antenna-coupled NbN hot-electron bolometer (HEB) has been demonstrated. This direct detector demonstrates the optical noise equivalent power of 2.0×10-13 W·Hz-0.5, and the time constant of 35 ps. It combines the sensitivity similar to that of the state-of-the-art THz detectors operating at liquid helium temperatures with the several order of magnitude faster response time. Difference frequency generation in GaSe crystal by using dual-wavelength 1.047 and 1.053 µm operation of the Nd:YLF laser was employed for generating short pulses of THz radiation at 1.64 THz.
