Vanadium derivatives play an important role in living nature and catalyze various oxidation processes in vitro, particularly oxidation of hydrocarbons. Earlier it has been found that the vanadate anion, VO3, efficiently catalyzes the oxidation of organic compounds with H2O2 in acetonitrile, if pyrazine-2-carboxylic acid (PCA) is present as a co-catalyst in the solution in low concentrations. The catalytic cycle for vanadium-catalyzed oxidations involves the formation of hydroperoxyl (HOO) andhydroxyl (HO•) radicals as well as peroxo complexes of VV and VIV. In the presentwork, we have found that specially synthesized quinoline complexes (somerepresentatives are shown below) very effifiently catalyze the alkane oxidation withH2O2 under mild conditions. A remarkble peculiarity of these catalysts is that they donot require adding PCA. The regio- and bond selectivity parameters demonstratedthat the reaction occur with the formation of free radicals.
