We introduce a method that stabilizes a multi-frequency Fabry-Perot laser to a whispering gallery mode microresonator, providing power efficient laser spectrum conversion from multi-frequency broad generation to single-frequency operation in IR and MIR spectral ranges. Using the same technique we also demonstrate a method to stabilize and control the generation of dissipative Kerr solitons (DKS) in nonlinear crystalline microresonators using multi-frequency CW laser diodes (1550 nm; P ~ 200mW), self-injection locked to magnesium fluoride microresonators (Q > 10^9).
