Pioneering role of Russia in family law developments in XXth century: non religious marriages, simple divorce rules and equality of children born in and out of marriage. Current Russian Family Code should be put in line with modern international standards. Not all the modern standards/trends should be embraced. The proposed changes should correlate with efforts of the Government to raise the birth rate. Certain aspects of practical reason should prevail over modern trends and political expectations.
