Описание: This course introduces students to a multicultural and multiethnic character of the Russian society, where 190 ethnic groups speaking over 150 languages coexist. Lectures will focus on key challenges media in languages other than Russian face today, consider the impact of globalization and digitalization upon ethnic media landscape in Russia, and highlight possible trends for development of such media in the future. At the end of the course students will have an understanding of how ethnic media (print, broadcasting, online) function in Russia, what role the state plays in their development, how big the influence of global and national factors is for ethnic media, and how multicultural Russian society encourages or hinders future development of such media.
