Introductory Aspects of Chemico-Biotic Interactions. Лекционный курс(course of lectures).
The course is in English. Affiliation of the authors: Biological Faculty, Lomonosov Moscow State University, Moscow 119991, Russian Federation. The course program in a foreign language (English) version), titled (full title):“Introductory selected issues of chemico-biotic interactions”. Authors of the course: Doctor of Biological Sciences Sergei Andreevich Ostroumov and Doctor of Biological Sciences, Professor Alexander Ovanesovich Kasumyan (Faculty of Biology, Moscow State University named after M.V. Lomonosov). Keywords: chemical-biotic interactions, biosphere, environmental toxicology, biochemical ecology, pollutants, xenobiotics, chemical reception, biogenic migration of atoms in the biosphere, decontamination, and others. Among the topics and issues analyzed and covered are the following ones: Main types of chemico-biotic interactions, including inter alia the issues related to: (1) interactions via receptors to chemicals; (2) interactions via biomembranes (not involving receptors, e.g., involving lipid bilayer) (3) interactions via sorption; (4) issues of production, generation, export and excretion of chemicals by organisms. Among other large parts of the course are the following: (5) issues of chemical and biochemical ecology; (6) issues of chemical ecology of the biosphere, including (6.1) issues of biogeochemistry, and (6.2) issues of biochemical and biophysical mechanisms for stability of the biosphere and global parameters of the environment. Examples of the issues and areas covered are as follows: (1) the most important indicators and criteria for characterizing the biological, toxic and harmful effects of pollutants and xenobiotics; (2) examples of the most important and emerging classes of synthetic substances that pose a danger to humans and biota, (3) biotesting methods, including alternative and new ones; (4) innovative conceptualization associated with the creation of a new interdisciplinary field of science, biochemical ecology; (5) studying the taste preferences of fish; (6) nature-based (biomimetic) technologies for purifying contaminated water and improving water quality; (7) innovations in biogeochemistry and ecological geochemistry; (8) development and updating of the fundamental concept of biogenic migration of chemical elements; (9) issues of function of ecosystems towards maintaining and improving water quality, towards decontamination. (10) Role of scientists of MSU (Moscow State University) in studying the issues covered in the course, including V.I. Vernadsky and others. (11) Practical application of the issues covered in the course for solution and meeting challenges of global change, biodiversity protection, implementation of environmental law of Russian Federation, for sustainability, biotechnology, human health protection and biomedicine. STUDY MATERIALS: articles and books of modern scientific literature in a foreign language (English) are used. COMPETENCIES. Students acquire and expand the following COMPETENCIES: (1) knowledge of modern English terms; (2) the ability to quickly translate articles from English into Russian and from Russian into English; (3) the ability to understand and make scientific reports in English and thereby more effectively use the opportunities to participate in international scientific conferences. FORMS OF WORK: lectures, seminars, short reports in foreign language (English), homework to expand the knowledge of vocabulary and terminology. FORMS OF INTERMEDIATE CONTROL: tests, tests. FORM OF CONTROL - test or exam (as decided by the management of the educational work). The length of the course in hours is in agreement with the educational supervisors.
