Аннотация:Presently the eastern sector of the Barents Sea is of great interest for searching new promising oil and gas fields. Oil and gas potential prospects of eastern sector of Barents Sea are associated not only with traditional Jurassic reservoirs of oil and gas but also with deeper Upper Paleozoic sequences where these are accessible for drilling. In region under study including Barents Sea shelf and water area of Timano-Pechora basin, oil and gas source sequences comprise the following. In Pechora Sea region:Upper Frasnian-Tournaisian carbonate-clayey and Visean clayey deposits possessing favourable oil source potential (organic matter type is predominantly II, humus-sapropel); Lower Permian carbonate-clayey deposits (Assel-Sakmar and Artin stages) containing organic matter of mixed type (II-III). In Barents Sea region: all the listed oil source sequences can be referred to gas-producing due to high extent of their catagenic transformation or to exhausted its generation potential. Middle Triassic clayey deposits in central and northern part of the region under study can be considered as regional oil source ones characterized by favourable generation potential. In New Land archipelago: Lower-Middle Devonian, Upper Frasnian-Fammenian, Tournaisian and Visean deposits. Organic matter type in these oil source sequences is predominantly sapropel and humus-sapropel (I and II types). Assel-Sakmar and Artin deposits throughout the territory studied are favourable oil-source deposits containing organic matter of sapropel type. The Admiral swell due to favourable tectonic position is an accumulation zone of both gas and oil hydrocarbons which source could be oil and gas source sequences of Middle-Upper Paleozoic age and possibly Mesozoic sequences of Barents Sea region.
