Аннотация:The area of study includes adjacent portions of Southern Tien-Shan, the Tadjik Depression, and the Northern Pamirs. Several imbricate thrusts are identified within the test area along the boundary between Tien-Shan and the Tadjik Depression. There are reasons to believe that the thrusts develop from interbed faulting at the level of the Upper Jurassic rocks and that they become more nearly horizontal further down dip. The results of a joint interpretation show that the upper crust in the study area is layered into two or three tectonic plates under subhorizontal compression oriented across the trend of tectonic features. The
well-pronounced lineation of tectonic features and the consistency in the orientation of the principal compression axes provide evidence in favour of the hypothesis that the convergence of lithospheric plates was the source of the horizontal compression. However, such convergence can hardly account for the formation of the two upper tectonic plates that comprise the Tadjik Depression. It is probable there is a combination of the plate tectonics mechanism with other mechanisms, the most plausible being the response of crustal rocks to a local inflow of additional material by deep fluids.
