Аннотация:This paper is devoted to theoretical analysis of a simultaneous up-shifted and down-shifted Bragg diffraction of light by ultrasound in birefringent media. The examined acousto-optic scattering takes place in a couple of optical maxima, one of which represents plus first diffraction order and the other minus first order. In contrast to isotropic media, the new diffraction regimes investigated are observed in optical crystals due principally to the existence of different types of acousto-optic interaction. These anisotropic and isotropic interactions are characterized by a rotation or a conservation of optical polarization. Simultaneous up- and down-shifted Bragg scattering manifests itself as a combination of various types of anisotropic and isotropic processes. All possible cases of up- and down-shifted diffraction in an arbitrary uniaxial crystal are investigated in this paper. The new regimes are systematized and the properties of each group of these interactions are analysed. It is predicted that some cases of the examined scattering may be applied in acousto-optic devices for processing of arbitrary polarized light.
