Аннотация:The effect of hydrogen spillover on electrodes prepared from Pt-Zr (from 0.4 to 4 wt % Zr) alloys, which were subjected to heat-treatment in the atmosphere of air or in vacuum at temperatures ranging from 600 to 800 degrees C, is discovered and investigated. The superequivalent (with respect to the oxygen being adsorbed and copper adatoms) quantity of reversibly adsorbed hydrogen is shown to depend on the concentration of zirconium in the alloy as well as on the temperature and annealing time of the sample. A conclusion is made that a disperse oxide-zirconium phase may form at the surface of the alloys, to which hydrogen spills from the platinum centers. The zirconium additives are found to lower the electrocatalytic activity of platinum in the methanol oxidation reaction. The presence of the spillover effect leads to an increase in the reduction currents of maleic acid.
