Аннотация:Dynamic penetration resistance of the 5-cm topsoil layer may show spatial variation, e.g. caused by the influence of recreation activities. In this study a compact and inexpensive dynamic penetrometer is applied to measure the dynamic penetration resistance. Spatial variability was analyzed on two plots in Russia under forest and cultivated land, respectively. A normal distribution was observed for the data collected from the field plot and the spatial variability could be modelled by means of semivariograms, allowing the use of ordinary kriging for mapping. On the contrary, the data collected from the forest plot were lognormally distributed and showed a quadratic trend. Generalized covariance functions were applied to model the spatial structure, and universal kriging was applied for mapping. This study showed remarkable differences in spatial variability for the dynamic soil penetration resistance of two different forms of land use. The geostatistical analysis supported the hypothesis that the spatial variability on the field was reduced following homogenizing influences of recreation, cattle and traffic.
