Аннотация:The stele from Vezirhan is best known for its intriguing Phrygian and Greek inscriptions, but the iconography, and especially the depiction of a goddess also pose an interesting challenge for scholars. On the one hand, this goddess is clearly related the images of Phrygian Matar (association with birds of prey and lions). However, some idiosyncrasies (e.g. the lack of polos) disallow direct identification with her. On the other hand, she is in keeping with
the Potnia theron type in general, but with a floral motif placed on her head, or sprouting directly out of it. In the article, several possible iconographical connections are considered for this element, but so far no direct matches are to be found. This strengthens the identification of the locally worshipped goddess as a unique figure, close, related, but not identical to other deities in the First Millennium BC Anatolia.
