Аннотация:Abstract—The size of the Black Sea dolphin population was studied from 1985 through 1987. Census routes of the research vessel covered the northern part of the Black Sea from Odessa to Batumi. The total route length was 9125 km. Overall, 2429 common dolphins, 787 harbor porpoises, and 261 bottlenose dolphins were recorded. The data on the occurrence of dolphins in different zones (shelf, continental slope, and the central zone) are presented. The mean number of dolphins per 100 km2 in the shelf zone amounted to 29.2 ± 7.7 for D.delphis, 4.5 ± 1.4 for T. truncatus, and 5.7 ± 1.4 for P. phocaena. A decrease in the density of bottlenose dolphins towards the center of the sea was the most pronounced. Extrapolating the data on population density obtained for the northern part of the sea over the entire sea area, the total number of dolphins in the Black Sea was estimated at 113.2 ± 30.3 thousand (96.0 ± 30.5 thousand common dolphins, 10.3 ± 3.4 thousand harbor porpoises, and 6.9 ± 2.6 thousand bottlenose dolphins).
