The authors apply “landscape indicator” principles of image interpretation to the study of desertification in drought-prone regions of the world. More specifically, the focus is on monitoring changes in objects visible on sequential images of a landscape (e.g., landforms of aeolian deposition) to obtain information about processes not otherwise readily detectable. Maps detailing a complex of processes associated with desertification on the Indian subcontinent are presented and described. © 1991 Taylor & Francis Group, LLC.
