Аннотация:Dynamics of the near-ground concentrations of principal air pollutants, such as ozone, nitrogen oxides and carbon monoxide, in Moscow is discussed basing on the data of continuous observations at the territory of the MSU Meteorological Observatory during 2002. In the annual course maximum values of the near-ground ozone are recorded in spring and summer, and minimum values are typical for later autumn and early winter. Daily and annual variations of NO, NO2 and CO are qualitatively similar, while daily course of the ozone is largely opposite to that of other substances under study. The morning maximum of NO and CO is usually more pronounced than the evening one. This phenomenon could be probably explained with the help of the sodar sounding data at MSU. At seems to be connected with the specific temperature stratification of lower atmosphere during morning hours, i.e. the existence of elevated inversion, which hampers the diffusion of pollutants in the near-ground layer of the atmosphere.
