Аннотация:We will examine the thermal conductivity of a series of rare-earth scandium garnet crystals (RESG) doped with neodymium and chromium ions, which are used as active media for solid-state lasers. We measured the thermal conductivity by a stationary heat flow method in the temperature range of 6-300 K. The error did not exceed 5% over the whole temperature range. We noted the correlation of the thermal conductivity with average masses and average radii of ions which form the RESG structure. At room temperature, the thermal conductivities (in units of W'm"-K") for YSGG: Cr, Nd, GSGG, and GSAG: Cr, Nd crystals were 7.9, 6.4, and 5.6, respectively, and for YSGG/GSAG: Cr, Nd solid solutions it was 5.9 to 6.1 units, depending on the composition. We detected a distinct increase (up to 20%) in the thermal conductivity when crystals were doped with microscopic amounts of Cr3+ and especially Cr4+ ions.
