Constants characterizing the pseudoliving process involving a poly(methacrylate) propagating radical and a polystyrene macronitroxide based on 2-methyl-2-nitrosopropane have been determined for the first time. Equilibria between propagating and dormant chains have been measured, and rate constants of recombination of an acryl radical with the polystyrene macronitroxide and of decomposition of the resulting adduct have been estimated. The values obtained demonstrate that the polymerization of methyl acrylate mediated by the above-mentioned macronitroxides may be an efficient method for the synthesis of block copolymers. © Nauka/Interperiodica 2007.
