Аннотация:SPATIAL DISTRIBUTION AND ABUNDANCE OF WOOD LEMMING POPULATIONS IN THEIR NORTH-EASTERN PORTION OF AREAL
L. G. Emelyanova
At present the wood lemming (Myopus schisticolor Lill.) is considered to be a rare species. This paper discusses the results of numerous field investigation designed to substantiate this opinion. Evidence was collected from four taiga regions of North Eastern Siberia. The results of species abundance evaluations conducted by different methods indicated that the wood lemming is a dominant species in small mammal communities of the northern taiga zone. A method developed by the author and used in the Tuostakh, River Yana Basin, confirmed this conclusion. Observations of the feeding habits of hawk owls in an open-air cage in a natural setting revealed that wood lemmings predominated in owl catches. Enclosed is a site map of all investigation locations.
