Аннотация:Ivan Fedorovich Gutt (1879 – 1933), a member of Russian Physical and Chemical Society, conducted many research works in the laboratory of organic and analytical chemistry of Moscow University under supervision of N.D. Zelinsky. Study of biography of I. F. Gutt was inspired by his relatives, who have sent a letter to a Chemistry Department of Moscow University. In the letter a family legend was described, saying that I.F. Gutt was one of the first Russian scientists, who synthesized rubber from the petroleum. The archive study on the biography of I.F. Gutt revealed many interesting documents: his birth certificate, a letter to prof. V.I. Vernadsky, a notebook with Gutt’s data on the elemental analysis of compounds described in the Journal of Russian Physical and Chemical Society. Analysis of the scientific heritage of I.F. Gutt revealed one unpublished and one published paper, dealing with unsaturated hydrocarbons isolated from the petroleum. In principle, the rubber-like materials could be obtained in the frame of these works.
