Аннотация:The optical loss is known to restrict sensitivity in laser gravitational wave detectors. The paper explores
the extent to which polarization impacts optical losses. The light is polarized inside interferometer so after reflection the polarization plane can slightly change its direction due to the fact that reflecting coating applied to the mirror has a refraction index varying along axes x , y in the mirror plane (the optical anisotropy). The nisotropy can occur at the stage of coating application (the elasto-optic effect). The amplitude of the light having orthogonal polarization is amplified inside the cavity resulting in the optical loss caused by polarization. So, information about the polarization profile on the mirror surface is highly important and we propose monitoring it. The polarization loss can be important in different precision optical experiments involving polarized light, for example, in quantum speed meters.
