Some water-soluble surface active macromolecule-metal complexes were synthesized and characterized by NMR, FTIR, electron and atomic absorption spectroscopies. Cobalt and copper complexes with macroligands based on monobutyl ethers of polyethylene oxide functionalized by acetylacetonate group were found to be efficient catalysts for aerobic oxidation of cyclohexane and cyclohexene in aqueous two-phase conditions. New highly selective supramolecular hydroxylation catalyst based on -cyclodextrin modified by catechol containing fragment was developed. High ort/îo-selectivity in hydroxylation of phenol by hydrogen peroxide is attributed to the effect of complexation by host molecule. Copyright ©1999 by Kodansha Ltd.
