Abstract. The article presents the results of the research of environmental-forming functions of the forests on the territory of New Moscow. In 2014 all the forests of New Moscow were given the status of protected areas, however today the construction of residential districts and roads has become noticeable, which raises concern about the possible negative effect on forest geosystems.
The aim of the article is to develop a method of evaluation of New Moscow forest communities’ oxygen production volume as the most important part of environmental-forming functions of forests and to carry out a comparative analysis of recent changes in forest communities using remote sensing data and the GIS-technology. Apart from that, one of the objectives was to devise a forest typology of the joined territory, taking the specific character of the formation of its environment into account.
