Аннотация:A new approach to the processing of the dump waste product stored in the tailings dumps of the nickel production enterprise Punda Gourda (Cuba) has been proposed to increase the yield of Ni obtained from it. The approach is based on gas-phase treatment of the dump waste product in an HNO3(vapor)–air or NOх–H2O(vapor)–air atmosphere followed by leaching of Ni into water. It was shown that the use of nitrating media allows efficient leaching of nickel from the dump waste product. It was found that preliminary treatment of the dump waste product in a nitrating atmosphere at 150°C for 5 h allows extraction of 73–81% Ni of its total content in the dump waste product. The degree of extraction of Fe into water does not exceed ~1% of its total content in the dump waste product in this case.
