Аннотация:The age distribution and reproductive characteristics of Rana arvalis females were
studied at three localities in Chernobyl district (Kiev region, Ukraine). The females breed for the
first time at least after 2nd, but more often - after 3rd wintering. In 2-year-old females the
minimal body length (SVL) was 34 mm, in 3- year-olds - 37 mm. The majority of 4-year-old females breed at least twice. The age structure revealed suggests low survival just after the first breeding. At the same time the age distribution, size and fecundity depended on local conditions too. In 1989 the population, colonized the pond of anthropogenic origin, consisted of only 2- and 3-year-old mature females. In 1992 the age structure of this population essentially changed and the proportion of 4-year-old females increased. In two other populations the 3-year-old females prevailed, but mature females differed in their average SVL (44.2 and 54.5 mm). In the central part of range (Moscow province) the age and size structure of the population substantially differs from that of the southern population, that depends on shorter duration of summer growth period. In our long-term study of Rana arvalis population in Moscow province the females were revealed to breed extremely rarely after their 2nd wintering, relatively small proportion - after 3rd wintering and the distribution mode consists of either 4-year-old or 5-year-old females. Despite of the later maturity revealed, maximum size and fecundity did not exceed those of southern populations, but their longevity is increased (5-6 years in south against 7-8 years in Moscow province).
