Cross-Wavelet Analysis of the Stratospheric Dynamics and Climatic Anomalies in the Arcticстатья

- Аннотация: In this paper, the wavelet transform method was used to analyze the series of sea surface temperature (SST) anomalies in the Arctic, together with the Arctic Oscillation (AO) index and the intensity level of the polar stratospheric vortex (ISPV). The result of this study was the establishment of several long-term cycles for fluctuations in SST, AO, and ISPV, different in duration and frequency of manifestation. To assess the mutual influence and tightness of the relationship between SST cycles and natural climatic oscillations, such as the AO index and ISPV, known for their strong influence on the climate of Western Europe, a cross-wavelet analysis was carried out.Analysis by the CWT method showed, in general, a somewhat more significant relationship with the SST and ISPV indices than with the AO index. The influence of the AO and ISPV indices was more substantial on the corresponding temperaturefluctuations in the study area at the end of the nineteenth and twentieth centuries. Both climatic indices show coherence with high-frequency fluctuations in sea surface temperatures in the Arctic, and the effect of ISPV is found to be much more diverse over the entire frequency time interval studied.
