Аннотация:The advancement of digital technologies has raised concerns about theirpotential impact on human memory and cognitive autonomy. This research proposalexplores the phenomenon of digital externalization, where reliance on mnemonicand informational tools such as smartphones and AI assistants may lead to a declinein natural memory capabilities. We critically examine the existing literature, including Sparrow et al.'s seminal "Google-effect" study, and propose an alternativetheoretical hypothesis that digital externalization might not be inherently negativebut could potentially have positive effects on cognition. We present four researchquestions aimed at investigating various aspects of cognitive externalization, including its intentionality, mediation by AI, and impact on memory processing. Weoutline three experiments designed to address these questions, incorporatingmethodological improvements and theoretical insights. Preliminary results fromExperiment 2 support the intentionality of the "Google-effect", while ongoing workaims to refine our understanding through additional experiments. Finally, we discussthe broader implications of digital externalization for cognitive psychology andhybrid intelligence research and outline future directions for theoretical refinementand empirical investigation. This interdisciplinary inquiry underscores the need fora holistic understanding of digital externalization to inform the development offuture hybrid intelligent systems that enhance human cognition while preservingindividual autonomy.
