The Functional States’ Dynamics During the Shift Period of Oil Exploration Workers with Different Work and Rest Regimes as a Marker of Their Psychological Safetyстатья

- Аннотация: Objectives/Scope: The present study is devoted to identify and describe the features of the functional states' dynamics during the shift period of oil exploration workers with different modes of work and rest as a marker of their psychological safety. This will allow identifying an employee’s risk group with low psychological safety for the development of measures to improve it, preserve their health and work efficiency. Methods, Procedures, Process: The research was carried out by means of a scientific expedition in August-September 2022 during the entire fly-in-fly-out shift period to the oil exploration field in the southeast of Russia. It was attended by 58 employees (average age 34,48±1,368, average work experience on a fly-in-fly-out basis 8,74±1,085, fly-in-fly-out period - 30 days). Research methods are: 1) instrumental psychophysiological methods for assessing the state on the devices «Psychophysiologist» (operator performance, functional state level, functional reserves level); 2) psychological testing methods are M. Luscher's color test and the “Well-being. Activity. Insistence" questioning. Psychological testing of employee’s personality traits. Statistical analysis was performed using descriptive statistics and multivariate methods using the SPSS 26.00 software package. Results, Observations, Conclusions: A comparative analysis of the average values of objective, subjective and projective parameters of the oil exploration workers' functional states with different work and rest regimes was carried out: 1) working the entire shift period on the day shift; 2) first on the day shift (the first two weeks of the shift period), then on the night shift (the second two weeks of the shift period); 3) first on the night shift (the first two weeks of the shift period), then on the day shift (the second two weeks of the shift period). In a general analysis of key trends in the change in the functional states of shift workers, it should be noted that more unfavorable dynamics are observed among employees who work first during the day (the first two weeks of the shift period), then at night (the second two weeks of the shift period). This may be due to the fact that the transition to work on a night shift is more physiologically difficult (than from a night shift to a day shift) and after two weeks of work the body's resources are depleted, which is reflected in an increase in stress and a decrease in working capacity by the end of the shift period for this category of workers. Moreover, these unfavorable trends are fixed by all methods (objective, projective and subjective). Novel/Additive Information: The novelty of this research is the combination of psychophysiological and psychological research methods, and the collection of empirical material through the expedition is also unique. The novelty of the study is a comparative analysis of the functional states’ dynamics of oil exploration workers with three types of work and rest regimes, working in one oil area in one period of the year.
