Аннотация:Magnetic measurements and neutron powder diffraction investigation of the magnetic structure of the YNi4Si-type TbNi4Si compound are presented. The magnetocaloric effect of TbNi4Si is calculated in terms of the isothermal magnetic entropy change and it reaches the maximum value of –6.3 J/kgK for a field change of 0–50 kOe near TC of 37 K.
Below 37 K and in a zero applied magnetic field, TbNi4Si exhibits a commensurate b-axis collinear ferromagnetic ordering with the Cmm'm magnetic space group. At 1.5 K, the terbium magnetic moment reaches the value of 8.66(6) μB.
