Аннотация:The paper discusses the methods of describing the seasonal dynamics of vegetation and soil surface moisture. The study area comprises Karadag Natural reserve and Echkidag wildlife sanctuary.
The dynamics of moisture content is studied within the types of land cover which were defined by
supervised classification of principal components of the set of multi-temporal Landsat-8 multispectral images. The field moisture of soil-vegetation cover is described by the integral index, which combines values of water content in soil, herbaceous phytomass and tree leaves. The index calculated according to the proportion of bare soil, grass and tree crowns at each study site shows the reliable relationship with Normalized Difference Water Index (NDWI), with coefficient of determination R2 reaching 0,91 for certain land cover types. The dynamics of vegetation and soil surface moisture during the summer season is described by the difference of NDWI values computed for May and August, 2016. The most important factors which determine the seasonal change of NDWI difference are amount of active phytomass, topographic position, potential incoming solar radiation and soil-vegetation water supply in the beginning of the summer. These factors describe 67% of the NDWI difference in forests sites and 89% in steppes. The results could be used for the search of fire-hazardous areas in steppes and forests and
for monitoring vineyards.
