Аннотация:Petroleum resources of the North Barents basin may represent an important part of petroleum production. This basin is similar to the South Barents basin where large and huge gas fields were discovered in Mesozoic complex. Structural model of the North Barents basin was constructed based on 2D seismic data and wells drilled on the Franz Josef Land and offshore. Two main phases of deformation was defined during the Mesozoic-Cenozoic time: Jurassic-Cretaceous and post-Cretaceous. Due to these processes prospective hydrocarbon structures were formed. Jurassic-Cretaceous structures are located on the northwest flank of the North Barents megatrough. Some post-Cretaceous structures are observed in the relief of sea bottom that confirms that they are still forming up to now. There were three phases of erosion processes in the North Barents basin: Triassic-Jurassic, Jurassic-Cretaceous and Cenozoic, the last one was the largest.
