Аннотация:In this work, the main features of complex formation between partially reacetylated short-chain chitosan and poly(ethylene-alt-maleic acid) copolymer (EMA) have been studied using static and dynamic light scattering and isothermal titration calorimetry methods in weakly acidic and alkalescent media at pH below and above pK02 of EMA copolymer. It is shown that RA-CHI/EMA binding characteristics depend on solution pH. At pH 6, one carboxyl group of maleic acid subunit participates in the complexation. In contrast, both carboxyl groups of EMA unit participate in the formation of PEC at pH 7.4, the range of soluble complexes formation widens, and the binding process has a pronounced two-stage nature. The interaction is accompanied with an additional ionization of chitosan as a result of proton transfer from a buffer substance. The formation of PEC can occur at physiological pH and physiological ionic strength (0.15 M). The complexes demonstrate a high stability with respect to higher salt concentrations. This study could be useful for developing biocompatible PEC systems for targeted delivery of biologically active compounds.
