Аннотация:Modern concept of cultural landscapes may be regarded as an instrument for transit to sustainable development at the North of Russia. They reveal historical forms of sustainable economic, ecological and social know-how useful for modern interpretation in the process of economic development in this region. Cultural landscapes structure is based on different world outlook of northern population: pagan –for indigenous population, modern European –for newcomers, often leading to ethnic-cultural nature management conflicts. Adaptive indigenous model of nature management presents ecologically safe schemes for modern economic development. Cultural landscapes spiritual elements promote regional identities development necessary for social sustainability. Cultural landscapes of the Russian North may be referred to national cultural heritage and need protection. Trans boundary historical cultural landscapes of Russian-Norwegian frontier form a reliable basement for joint activities in economic, ecological and social spheres. Mapping of cultural landscapes is important for regional planning practice but cultural landscapes maps are still rare.
