Аннотация:The M-type hexaferrites crystal lattice attracts interest as the prospective matrix for substitution to vary the object’s properties. This article presents the investigation results of aluminum-substituted barium hexaferrite BaFe8Al4O19. It was obtained that cation substitution proceeds layer by layer, meaning that aluminum ions located at 12k positions form a nonmagnetic layer. That separates the magnetic sublattices and enables the reorientation of magnetic moments upon heating, forming a new magnetic sublattice without changing the phase composition. The aluminum cations distribution in the crystal lattice was confirmed by quantum chemical calculations, neutron diffraction, and M¨ossbauer spectroscopy. The presence of two magnetic transitions at different temperatures was confirmed by temperature magnetometry and temperature neutron diffraction.
