Аннотация:The pressure drop in models of fibrous filters, consisting of several parallel rows of parallel cylinders orientated across the flow direction of a viscous liquid, has been measured at small Reynolds numbers. The pressure drop across models with a uniform staggered arrangement of all cylinders, as well as across isolated rows of parallel cylinders has been shown to be in good agreement with theoretical formulae and with the field of flow in such systems directly determined by the authors. The experimental data agree with the theory only if the face velocity of the liquid entering the model is taken to be the “undisturbed flow velocity”. The pressure drop is appreciably diminished when the parallelism between the cylinders or the uniformity of their arrangement is impaired. The conditions have been established under which the hydrodynamic interaction between the adjacent rows disappears and the pressure drop across the total system is equal to the sum of those across isolated rows.
