Аннотация:The method of polarization IR spectroscopy is applied to investigate a change in the structure of the interlayers of a 5CB nematic liquid crystal between the fluorite plates during the passage from the bulk state to a thin film. To analyze spectroscopic data, a two-fraction model is developed enabling determination of the orientation and the degree of ordering of the transition moments of intramolecular bonds. It is shown that, for molecules having the degrees of freedom of internal rotation, the complete description of structural changes should include characteristics of the ordering of the molecule fragments with respect to the tilt angle of the director to normal and in the direction in the plane parallel to the film-substrate interface, as well as the analysis of changes in the conformational composition of a liquid. The disclosed structural changes make it possible to clarify the stability of symmetrical interlayers in the investigated system.
