The law has to be moral to count as law. But what is law? Law represents the rules laid down by the state which can be enforced in the courts. Morality is associated with principles or standards that determine good or bad human conduct. So, laws appear to be a system of enforcing or policing the most important moral rules. But the problem arises – whose morality should be enforced? In this controversial context certain moral values seem necessary to be taught even during high school years as the character the students build will sustain them throughout high school and beyond. Character education should be implemented, especially teaching positive behavior ought to be regarded as priority. The personality of Atticus Finch from an outstanding novel by Harper Lee ‘To Kill a Mockingbird’ sets a good example to follow and discuss moral issues.
