Caspian Lowland is one of the most controversial areas of permafrost distribution on the East European Plain in the Late Pleistocene. Complex geological history of this region was dominated by transgressive-regressive events of the Caspian Sea. For many decades Quaternary geology studies were focused on the reconstruction of the parameters of the Pleistocene basins of the Caspian Sea, while the subaerial deposits of the region have not been intensively studied.
