Design and synthesis of efficient UV and fluorescent chemosensors is an important task of the modern organic and analytical chemistry. Our approach utilizes the metal-catalyzed reactions for the construction of C-N bonds for this purpose. In the present investigation we decided to compare the possibilities of the spectrophotometric and spectrofluorimetric detection of metal cations with simple linear N,N’-diphenylsubstituted oxadiamines and their cyclic analogues comprising BINOL moiety in order to find out dependence of the efficiency of the recognition on the cyclic/linear structure of the potential detector, the length of the chain and the number of donor oxygen atoms in it.
